ORGANIC SERVICES (SCOTLAND) Ltd. formerly traded under the name Scottish Organic Services, popularly known as “SOS”. SOS was formed in 1997 by partners Allan Bell, a farmer, Ian G. Walls, horticultural consultant, journalist and author of 19 horticultural texts, both from Milngavie, and Douglas McK. Boyle, a geologist and environmental manager from Crieff, Perthshire. In 2001 SOS registered as OSS Ltd. with directors Allan Bell and Douglas Boyle. In 2005 Allan Bell left to run his own growing recycling business.
Since 1992 SOS has recognised the need to divert organic wastes from landfill and, also realising their potential as a natural fertiliser source for ever more stressed agricultural soils, furthermore to sanitise and stabilise these residues such that the products of treatment could be recycled to this role. Thus fulfilling the principle of
“Sustainable Management of Organic Resources”.
